it IS over

it ended
long before it was over
for years
we didn't communicate
we didn't talk
'cept about jobs
& kid's & problems
never showing
maybe never knowing
our true feelings
or what were the dealings
with ourselves
with each other

then came the "Big D"
and the marriage was at an END
but we were still friends

we talked & we laughed
we shared
we cared
more than before
and we were there for each other
although we weren't together
thru calm & stormy weather
we'd been together

now
you've got a new man
i undertsand
think that's grand
& i'm happy for you

and me?
well. i'm just dealin' with the dyin'
the whyin'
of it all
goin' thru the motions
the emotions
the Loco-motions

but now when we're together
or when we talk
ain't really nuthin' ta' say

5 minutes
maybe 10
what then
and we're thru
you can't talk about him
& i can't talk about them

so then it's over

so then
IT IS OVER
