In Abu Dhabi we stay
a feline roars a quiet sound of awe
Call it Tootie the cat at play
Her green eyes a' glow with her claws

Daily ceremonials
Here the cat possess the habitat
No laurels
Just ordinary days filled where they sat
From window sills high
Perched cousins of the lion on mats
They all have faces and feet
gallop like a camel gone thirsty
Yet eager to greet

Ah! sometimes the incongruity
of their acts

Tootie can have faces too...
A bull, stubborn and aloof
her eyes glowin' as if to spoof
In a trance, she sits staring
Do I know if she is just glaring?
Picked apart, ready to pounce

I misinterpreted again as she mounts
As an eagle sees from on high
This cat of many faces knows the count

With the stubbornness of a young child
This one stays
And purrs with a vibration so mild
She is really a human person
Clothed in fur but still wild

But now here in Abu Dhabi it is written
The cats are only animals astray
Cast offs with little respect given
I rescued Tootie by adoption---pardon
me if I may...

For now
Tootie misbehaves in front of me
Scratchin' and a hair ball not so new
She's ready to jump on my knee
To tell me she'll stick to me like glue
in a land so far from real home
Friendship indeed grown...

My grandma had over twenty strays once
All I have is one shown
That matters most between two friends...
