Stopping the Rhythm of Breath
I held my breath and counted to twenty - three,
I wanted to observed what it did to me.
I started to imagine different things,
relative to how I was, how I am, and how I will be.
There wasn't much of a change when I got to number 9.
My lips were closed and my cheeks billowed outward,
but I think that I felt fine .
At 17, things were getting fuzzy and I had no doubt,
the air that inflated my swollen chest needed to be blown out.
I then quickly counted to 23,
what a relief it was to me.
The color in my face returned from red to tan.
It made me see something I needed to understand.
When I held my breath I went through some changes.
I wasn't in life's rhythm as each moment rearranges.
I took myself out of step with what was around me.
I thought; what would it be like if I held my love for life inside
me?
Holding back my compassion for all that is living,
or waiting to help others from their misgivings.
Keeping a smile 'til another time,
performing an act of kindness later down the line.
Expressing yourself is as beautiful as it is free.
When the time is right what a shame it would be
if we hesitate to interact with all of the life that's around thee,
We chain our hearts and souls from the sharing of our realities,
like stopping the rhythm of breath and counting to 23.
or the elevation from myself...it is utter calm & renewing
