Song in a Saddle

Galloping between clouds and pines,
ribbons in her hair danced in the wind,
brown eyes wider than the day is long,
counting too many times she had sinned

She sketched a song on that ole saddle,
about a girl who was in prison of love,
why would she ever want to break free,
no way, did her heart want to partake of

Her wounds were wrapped up and tossed,
deep into the woods, for wolves to lick,
the song’s ending she will leave blank,
for him to fill and cure her lovesick

If only, he would come and lasso her,
jump on her saddle and sing the ending,
then run through hues of every sunset,
with no more dreams of just pretending

but for now…
She tipped her hat to the rising sun,
in prayer, gave thanks for this gift of day,
for her partner in friendship and soul,
where in her heart, he will always stay

"then run through hues of every sunset" is a magical concept that fits especially well with the romantic theme of this song Christine -- I bid you love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael

and on the ridge above the hill
with his black hat tilted low
watched as the last rays of sun
a rainbow of tears in its'glow
shadowed her heart on the trail
where her love had chosen to go...

Hope you don't mind Chrissie, loved your poem but couldn't resist adding my impression

Quite a different kind of poetry for you Christine, and I like the difference. This girl is mischievous even as she pines for a lover to be. The ending was quite good.
