SOOOO true. The greatest enemy of God is self-sufficiency. The Bible does NOT say that God helps those who help themselves. It clearly states that we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us. Our true power comes from total surrender to Him, not doing it ourselves.

Pride is number one on God's hate list:
16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,...

This immediately brought to mind a verse from a poem I wrote on
May 9, 2007.

"Such a great people we could be,
If by God all our morals are set;
Regretfully, we learned too much pride,
Yes, pride is a sin, less we forget."
