In the room upstairs she sews.
     Happily,
she patches scraps of fabric
     together,
arranging them in patterns
     perfected.
Stitch by stitch she joins the cloth,
     joyfully
combining colors with style,
     care with skill.

In my memory, she smiles,
     celebrates
me with friends and family
     gathered ‘round:
a party, a cake, ice cream,
     games and fun
in home she knits together,
     decorates
with cozy quilted comfort
     of her love.
