The golden-haired cat paces,
looking like a malnourished lion,
lost and searching for his pride.
Shoulders forward, he is sprawled
atop the dining room table, his
yellow-green eyes purveying
carpeted plains stretched before him.
Four empty chairs surround him.
Outside, it is the rainy season.
Feisty feline mulls over missing
meal, helpmate he hasn’t found.
A low rumble rises from his belly.
His body stretches, claws extended
as the humble meow escapes, faint
echo of his hunger to be wild.

Wonderful captivating poem, Dawn!
His body stretches, claws extended

Sad. This is face of hunger but these three lines explain so much
