People of Immanuel: my small voice is swallowed into the rafters and you will not hear these words dripping with sadness for all your singing and rejoicing today. Oh, let your joy resound!
I have come to understand this: though we are separated and though you may never miss me, we are one congregation, joined in the presence of the one Lord in whom we find our very breath.
No matter how the distance breaks me, no matter how many times you turn to look the other way, my tears are your tears and your songs are my songs, so let us worship now, in spirit and in truth.
This is simple and has maximum effect on readers. The imagery is spot on and evocative, and challenges an unbriefed reader to be led by the N. Excellent work, Dawn!

"my tears are your tears
and your songs are my songs" <- Pure and simple wisdom.
The only way the songs will be heard is if they are sung in the spirit of truth. Acceptance of all people is what religions are truly about, though often times it is the congregation that fails us in that matter through judgements that are not theirs, but God's. You are so right on spot with this poem, Dawn.
