Deep in a narrow canyon bed my body lies, bruised and broken. At first in the dream, I think I am among friends, colleagues, kindred spirits, but I blink and they are brandishing knives, gleefully carving out designs in this flesh I never wanted.
From high on a distant ridge, echoes of the poets and prophets fall. Their songs are life to me. They are my true family. My heart breaks that I am not among them, that there are no poets among these who stare deep into my cavernous eyes, pools of green sea mystery in the desert.
Even in the dream, I am dreaming that one day I will walk from this place. But for now, on my back, my eyes are searching for the light, and on my darkest night I see a star shining in the East and know one will come to raise me up and guide me through the valleys to the canyon ridge
Yep, we may have to endure the tunnel, the tight squeeze or the stifling place before we are born to the New Day and to the True Life... makes me appreciate what babies have to go through and how frightening it must be for them - traumatic, rather. Sorry, a bit of a tangent here, Dawn, but this is deeply thought-provoking although an intensely personal narrative. From death to life... has got to be good!... And all to the fanfare of Angels! Couldn't be better! LOL Kate xx

Beautiful poem Dawn. The light you see is coming from within your own heart.
I must admit that I am glad that is not MY dream, Dawn! Happily, I only dream good or strange dreams but rarely scary ones. This is really a dark poem but in the end, a ray of light finds you and will be there when you pull yourself from the pit of darkness. Great writing!
Take care,
Sherry
