Once upon a time before time
you were a dancing star sublime.
You fell like fire through the sky into a dream, a lullaby
from which you must awaken now to come center stage, take a bow. You may see yourself as shattered,
forgetting all that once mattered:
the falling free from here to there
and this life’s laughing double dare.
Through shards of soul self now you see
knowing that you have come to be. In the silence and empty space
of this vast world, this holy place,
can you catch sight of brilliant light of shining, shooting star you are?
Can you gaze far into this night
and see you’ve come so fast, so far? Has your world dimmed, gone gray, gone mad?
Have you lost all you thought you had?
Fly on then through the starless void.
Go now, singing and overjoyed
that you are shining on your way,
that night is passing into day. And all you thought destroyed, consumed,
has sprouted full and you have bloomed becoming who you always were
your swirling story now a blur,
song rising from still center point,
This world with fragrance you anoint. And finding peace in being breath,
you pass from birth through life to death,
then find again your sacred song,
symphony to which you belong.
You rise higher, a second son,
and know you’ve only just begun.
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
