They told me to pack my bags
and drive north and so I did
ready for adventure
but not expecting
to see
that this was a further
circling back, making a wider loop
to recollect all that was depostied
by the storm that seemed at the time
not at all about you
to know
and at last receive that it was
always most about you and me
and why we came to be
here and now: two storms
who seemed never to see
eye to eye.
So I went to the places they led me,
one right after the other, more
and more shocked to discover
what even I had buried deep.
I stilled myself and dared
to listen
to the echoes in this place
where you always seemed far from me
ever choosing to remain on the periphery
or distancing me and I resigned to
what I saw as fate, not hoping
to touch
the truth even when it was
plain to see and stirring there
in the depths of me where
we were never two but one
who always seemed to move
heart to heart.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
