What life itself calls for cannot be denied.
When it issues invitation I reply.
While it looks to some like meteoric rise
it has been in the making for eons now.
I never know how it will go, one day to
the next. That is the adventure I suppose.
And so the sun rises. It will also set.
It's the in between and who we choose to be—
That's where the mystery's at. This way of being
is not for faint of heart. It demands presence.
It requires adaptation. It offers
great challenge, and yet it also brings reward,
For on most magical of days: miracle
made manifest, before you reflection of
very best in you, a moment that reveals
extraordinary movement of a divine
Grace poured out to anoint, to change you complete.
And you know in such moments rare that faithful
choices and quiet service has been seen, that
while every evidence of the opposite
Screams out from all directions to such degree
that you are like a sailor whose crew is lost,
clinging to the mast of a ship so battered
and beaten by a relentless raging rain.
When out of nowhere dark clouds part and you see
light break forth... Or when the winds stop suddenly
and you hear some ancient melody that makes
your heart still, then skip a beat... That kind of gift
When it appears so suddenly feels like home,
like strong arms of the winged ones who held you through
so many other storms. When such a moment
comes it can almost scare you more than the storm.
But we have come to life for experience,
to learn more of who we are. And so I say
yes, then do my best to navigate such
new world voyage on an unfamiliar sea.
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
