Limping down the road, hungry and cold,The old dog whimpered, not knowing she was old,Nor that the man she had lived with and loved,Was trying to send her to Heaven above.The old dog had cancer and her head would ache, She found it was hard now to stay awake, With a whimper,she finally laid down, Dreaming of her warm home as the rain started down.The dog had been faithful and loved her man,Who knew, as he drove, that she was worth more than his plans,He turned and drove back to   help his old friend, But found her fighting the pain right to the end.He picked the dog up and stroked the grey head,Then drove his   friend home and laid her in bed,He turned on some music and stroked his  old pet,Then with tears in his eyes, he took her straight to the vet. He held his friend tightly as the vet gave the last shot,The dog licked her friend's hand as her world became dark.
