Once burnt, twice shy, isn't that the old saying?
And quite true - when we have been hurt by one's words, it cuts to the bone. And it is very hard to bounce back - lonely souls been disappointed...all of us can relate.

The ability to say what is in one's heart and be honest with oneself while you speak the words is one that often hard to learn and even harder to use. Fear, pain, ego and other human emotions tend to pile on the band wagon and what starts out as a simple phrase like "I like you" becomes somthing vague and uncummunicable like "
gee we have so much in common and if I wasn't this or you wern't that and if we don't talk about such and such, or if we do we must call it such and such...etc." So if you want to communicate from the heart keep the words from the heart. Well expressed write Becca.
