seeking light...we sometimes wonder if we will survive the dark moments...find solace in the spirit...or shut out life completely.

Chambers of my Heart

I carried a torch

To comfort the dark…

As I journeyed through

The chambers of my heart.

The walls were lined

With many a scar…

And ‘twas not a window

That held no bar.

So strong came a wind

That my torch grew dim…

And my eyes began

To see from within.

There is no longer reason

To wonder and doubt…

The drawbridge has shut

And my torch has gone out.

Sometimes we are left with no choice but to carry our own light within our hearts, as other people and outside influences have darkened ours so much in the past. Sometimes the wind that comes along to knock out the light is just what we need and sometimes we need to keep a tiny flame lit inside just in case we can't find our way again. A very thoughtful piece! Best, Elizabeth

This could be taken two ways and I am trying to figure it out which way it was intended. But then that would ruin your trademark crypticness, wouldn't it...:~)

Wow - 1974 (I was 10). I love this; it's like seeing into a younger version of you. The style is different from now, yet the "You" of it still shines through. It's like looking through a family photo album and seeing a picture of you from years ago and saying "Look at you! I recognize you, but you're even better looking now!"

One can really think when in the dark and the scars of life are examples of how we persevered and over came wounds inflicted

Hello John,
Your poems sure make one think about their own life. Usually whenever my drawbridge shut it was because I came across the answer like a lightbulb being turned on....and then finally I could rest, because I had my answer and could put the torch out. Great poem John!

Oh I know this feeling sooooo well...

It took me ages
to relight
that flame of torch
now burning bright

As one wander inside the heart it will have been wise to come inside holding a bromm to sweep away all those lose pains left there by people that perhaps we don't even remember.
The sacars? they only forgetables pictures on the wall.
Well written.
