Makes one stop and think, doesn't it? About all there is to do in life...and how much time we have to do it in. A lot said in few words...something that I like very much.
No one says it quite like you, John. And at my age, I sometimes wonder why I have allowed so much time to steal away without giving more of myself to others. In reality, spring will soon be in our midst, but from this point on, I shall forever be trapped in winter, with feelings of what could have been and should have been.
There's something special about this simple write--beautiful and compelling. I think the way you insert the last phrase, and then leave it abruptly, is very effective. I probably would have tried to write a conclusion of some sort--you left room for the reader's musings to follow.
I'm a little late with this--but welcome to the Den!
sometimes in simplicity lies the most complex beauty, like the prisms of the humble snowflake. you capture the seasons of life in a movement perfect for any time of year.

Maturing, the hard corners are rounder, the words more firm but yet, more gentle, the anger is melting into reflection and your poems are going into us like rain does going into dry sand.
Excellent, my friend, excellent.

The seasons of my life are passing too quickly. I'm still in the autumn of my life, but winter's just around the corner. Sheish! I didn't think I'd get this old, this soon.
Smooth and easy feeling. Brings to mind cinnoman and spices, pumpkins and hot pies cooling down and the most beautiful of fall leaves as a centerpiece.
You have the passion for this season.

John I always enjoy your poems; no matter what they are and no matter how you chose to construct your poems. They are all good! Blessings, Holly
As a writer who uses the analogies of life's seasons and nature's seasons myself, I so enjoyed this piece. In few words you capture the angst we feel as we ponder passing seasons and the coming of our winter... very nice, John!
