ashen transference...

In the grayness of this afternoon…
is it possible
that the grayness of this afternoon
has given me the moments
to feel alone…
a little lost
inside myself?
Looking within
mirror of self…
perhaps the faces of
Comedie and Pathos
have alighted on my soul…
my smile
hiding the true essence
of my thoughts
in the diffused light this day.
Blueness…
thoughts of a more carefree time
when the newness of travel
and the unknown
gave me breath of life…
the people of my journeys
gifted my being with memories
of everlasting youth.
How the passport of our freedom here
will expire…
yet the memories of times past
remain forever…
on gray afternoons
such as this.

Is it possible to feel nostalgic, grateful and melancholy all at once? These are the emotions that stir in me as I read your words. I sense a longing balanced by no regrets and a peace of mind that can only be attained through time and experience. Perhaps a heavy sigh at times lost and memories found.

It's days such as this...when I am in a reflective mood...that I feel the urge to be creative. My, John, but to have such a gift as you with words. Wonderful write, my friend. Teach us more of your wisdom.

This has such a wistful feel to it. I can almost see the gray afternoon and my mind begins wandering down those more somber and melancholy paths.

"How the passport of our freedom here
will expire..." You truly have a way with words. Sometimes those gray afternoons approach...but hopefully a brighter one is on the horizon. Excellent write, John.

I often feel a "kindred spirit" with gray afternoons and the blue dusk colors at the gloaming of the day. You take me there with your verses, John. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

Well versed and well thoughtout as you travered the memories of yesteryear and dwelled on flights of fancy when the world was not poised on the brink of damnation . . .

Oh those gray afternoons...the gray mornings are the ones that really toss me into melancholy and the 'wonders' as my sister calls them. This poem oozes bittersweet... These lines..

Blueness…
thoughts of a more carefree time
when the newness of travel
and the unknown
gave me breath of life…
the people of my journeys
gifted my being with memories
of everlasting youth

.. are especially poignant.

Beautifully said John, I'm having one of those grey afternoons right now;-)A rain and wind storm that is very severe and the gray turns to black mush of the time. When I finish here I shall curl up with a good book, and in-between some meditation. Enjoyed this poem!

Deep, deep thoughts that permeate the gray of a waning day. Your words created the atmosphere here for me too. Winter time always makes us to delve into deeper thinking.Especially for poets.

Comedie and Pathos holding a freedom's passport with a soul just letting its legs to go so you will feel down down down, until a sunny day becomes a gray afternoon.
Man...I hope a friend is a hand to share a tumbler of Chivas royal salute.
Cheers!!!!!!
Georg
