Lines in ink of time upon the page are met with word of present past so that we not forget. The notes we hum through life in music of our thoughts until the iron gates become what God hath wrought. The tattoos of our journey are deeply inked within filled with hopes one wished for and all that one has been. Yet hidden in these chapters are pages set apart to keep the blood lines moving within a beating heart. As old as oak in ages then carved in yesteryear one finds the words of others as something to hold dear. For life is stored in volumes a gift we leave behind in faith there be some good left for future of mankind. Composing marks and symbols and sentenced to the pen my freedom will forever flow a river with no end.
John, this is absolutely wonderful. I not only understood it but I could feel what you were feeling writing it. What a talent you have my friend. I will be back for a lot more. God Bless, Bonnie
John, I may be off base, but the Bible came to mind when I read your poem. The age of oak, word of present past, several things...the mention of God, Bible and history and our connection..am I going too far? In any case, the beauty of it made my eyes water. Lovely work.

Enjoyed this one, John, not least because it is an effective and skillfully executed rhyming poem. I myself view the inevitability of humanity's demise as a given (at least as the highest evolved sentient life form, anyway), but I cannot help sustaining a sort of fond affection for the species, despite my intense social misanthropy. As cartoonist Charles Schultz (a notoriously sensitive introvert and unreconstructed sentimentalist) once phrased it (or words closely approximating it), "I love humanity....it's people I can't stand." Interesting exploration here, John; mahalo for sharing this one.

The rhyme and rhythm make the verses flow like a river, John; and the theme of your write is appreciated. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and peace,
"a river with no end" Hey John, we're on the same "wavelength" today. That's the spiritual, creative life that flows ever onward. This is a great ode to all poets. And you penned it! I hope your poetic journey is all fulfilling!

You layered the lines in the exactness needed to give yourself something very special . . . Exquisite . . . And I do not use that word without thought . . .
As beauiful as you are too John. Your maturity in a short time, for poetry has been phenomenol. I wait for your poems to be published and I wish you all the energy in this world to get your poems out there for everyone to read.
Love,
Susan
John, I don't know where to begin... so many lines whispered to me... reminding me that for all that has been there is still much to be. Each period of our lives blends with the other... and become the volumes that define us.. Excellent piece!
