Children always ask me during school visits how I write poetry from a child's point of view ...

The Child Within

Down inside this grownup
lives the child that used to be.
When I look in my mirror,
she stares right back at me.

Now that I’m a grownup,
it’s an older face I see,
but the child’s still there, just hiding,
way down deep inside of me.

Sometimes we work together,
that little girl and me.
She comes up from her hiding place
and we write poetry.

I like being grownup
and I wouldn’t wanna swap.
Well... maybe a little younger face
with no grey hair on top.

LOL! We all see the child within...Thank you for this. We need the reminder time to time, who we really are: we're all God's children, He is the One who made us just as we are.

An adorable poem...and so true. We should never lose touch of that child within...she could be loads of fun and is a wellspring for writers to draw from. Loved the easy flow of this poem, C.J. :)
