Dear Mommy Up In Heaven

Dear Mommy up in heaven,
you’re always in my mind.
I wish that you could tell me
why you left so much behind.

You left your bunny slippers,
fuzzy pink with big long ears,
and when Daddy holds your picture
he’s sad, and he cries tears.

Your clothes are in the closet,
you left your perfume, too,
and when I need you close to me
I go there - it smells like you.

You must hum a lot in heaven.
Daddy says he thinks you might.
Sometimes I think I hear you
when I shut my eyes real tight.

I miss your hugs and kisses,
you took most of them with you,
but I’m glad you made me save some
in my jammy pockets, too.

Me and Daddy miss and love you
and we don’t mean to make a fuss. 
Daddy says you loved us both so much
... that you left your stuff for us.

Oh, CJ, how you captured the heartfelt loss of a little one. It's wonderful how you turned the things mommy left behind into a positive for her. This is classic CJ poetry.

this poem reminds me of a little girl that I had in my first grade classroom last school year...she lost her mother at a very early age and often spoke of her and the items that she had left behind. This poem speaks to the heart of anyone who has lost their mother, I am very fortunate to still have my'ne...I am thankful, great poem.

Hi CJ:

I'm not a kid, but I do love the stuff that my mother left behind.

This is a wonderful poem spoken in the tones of a young child. Lovely write indeed!
