Mr. Bones
by CJ Heck I was looking up some haunted stuff because it’s Halloween. I saw black cats, ghosts and witches, and most of them lookedmean! Then I sawyourpicture. You’re an awesome skeleton! I read that we are just like you, deep down beneath our skin. Before you got turned inside out, did youreallylook like me? And may I call you Mr. Bones since bones are all I see? Andmorequestions, Mr. Bones ... between your bones, I just see air. When you walk do you make noise? Are you cold because you’re bare? And Mr. Bones, oh Mr. Bones, you have ascarymouth and there’s nothing where your eyes should be. You're so spooky wrong-side out! Poor, poor Mr. Bones, it’s so sad you have no skin ... I guess that I'd look frightening, too, with my inside out, and my outside in.
You are a master weaver of children's stories, and this cute piece is no exception..
Had me immediately thinking of Dr " Bones " McCoy in Star Trek...heh

to the foot bone,
and the foot bone connected
to the ankle bone,
and the ankle bone connected
to the leg bone.
Oh mercy how they scare!
With the leg bone connected
to the knee bone,
and the knee bone connected
to the thigh bone,
and the thigh bone connected
to the hip bone.
Oh how they scare!

I love this poem and is appropriate for the season, you have captured the children's thoughts of a skeleton exactly, they say the most comical things sometimes...You are a gifted writer my friend. I enjoyed this one very much, and might borrow it to read to my first grade class this month...

Heck, CJ Heck, you do write some cute ones! :) My hubby and I call each other "Bones" ... just in case we get mixed up and call each other Harry and Sue, or some other strange name! Best to play it save! :)
My first thought was, Moira will just love this. From time to time she picks up her signed book from you and says, "Papaw, will you read to me?" Her favorite is Bandaids. She'll love your next book I'm sure.
