The Breakfast Child

Early this morning, I spilled my milk.
It dripped on the kitchen floor,
and when I tried to wipe it up,
I slipped and I spilled some more!

Then the cereal box tumbled down
and Cheerios went everywhere.
Little O’s in the milk on the floor.
Little O’s stuck in my hair.

Oh geez, I thought, what a big mess.
Daddy and Mommy will be so mad!
Oops … I slipped and I fell in it, too,
and then I felt really bad.

Then Mommy and Daddy came in,
but they were laughing at my mess!
They said I looked really funny
sitting there in my own breakfast.

Ah! Loved this...my granddaughter Jozie just spilled her bowl of cheerios yesterday, everywhere all over the kitchen floor...you've described her little tragedy very well through your poem,...you've brought a smile to my lips this early morning and laughter to my day! Your poem flowed smoothly and read quickly as well as captured the moment! Enjoyed this so much as always a pleasure to read your work! You're gifted my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

cute little poem Cj, little kids do end wearing more of their food than they eat, and some old kids too

This is great, brings back memories. One Easter morning my girls 4 and 5 decided to fix breakfast, pancakes that is. Well, eggs fell, made a mess. 5 year old grabbed a bag of flour. Poured flour over the broken eggs to cover up the mess..........An Easter I will never forget. (Took them to IHOP instead)
Be safe,
Karen

An excellent description of child behaviour. I enjoyed it. Kids are wonderful. I like the happiness shown by mom and dad to this child.
Well-written.

Thank you.

In admiration,

I've seen my children make enough unique messes at the table that those memories, combined with this poem, made it quite hilarious.

This a beautifully written poem
Your choice of words have painted a picture
Of a beautiful morning breakfast
Disaster I feel so bad for him because
When my children where growing up they would have
Accidents with milk and cereal all over the floor
And none in their bowel they would cry
And I would help them clean up "oh how I miss
Not having children at home
Your poem brought back so many beautiful
Memories to my mind it gave me happiness
To read this magnificent poetic view of The Breakfast Child
I truly enjoyed this piece!!
Love And Peace to You Always...Morning star

CJ --- Splendiferous...as well as Expealidocious!

Amazingly, just today, I was delivering 'scrips' ( medicine from pharmacy) to a home for aged people. While waiting in the dining room for a signature, noticed 15 large boxes of cereal, all lined up on the floor, under a window -- several kinds, but mostly CHEERIOS!

Guess Ole Folks still like 'em TOO! Tom.

Tell me true, why is it when I pictured this poem and the child on the floor with the O's and milk, did I see your grinning face? Since you are so good at putting yourself in the mind's eye of a child, I know you're just itching to get down there yourself. But then, I could be wrong. NOT!! Of course I agree with Kate on the quality of your children's poems.

Delightfully reminiscent of my babes in high-chairs, bowls on their heads and yoghurt pouring down all over. Seems food goes everywhere other than in the mouth... But then again, when you get to the other side of 40, the shoes start to turn up in the frig and the cereal packets in the boot rack. I was half expectin Mommy and Daddy to suggest eating it up off the floor to save on the washing up... now that WOULD have been bad!!! Your children's poetry is sooooooooo much better than all the rubbish nursery rhymes I seem to remember being brought up on... and which still baffle little ones today... TY CJ... another classic. LOL K xx

A beautiful one, imagining a mischievous and shameful little smile while sitting on the floor waiting...for what?
Not peril there, just a parental laugh.
Very well done.
