The Moon Maiden

In the early ages of the Tee-whan
The Trues created the first guardian
He was the sun and his eyes shown bright,
But also the Moon-Maiden to shine at night.

In those days both had two eyes to see
The sun taught the warriors to be free
To hunt by his great light of the day
And to farm the land as the Trues did say.

The Moon-Maiden too had been blessed
With all that a woman could possess
She was gifted with life giving beauty
As any man of that age could see.

But the Trues worried that the land had no rest,
As both night and day shown bright and steadfast.
They talked of how this problem they would solve
And to take an eye from Moon or Sun was their resolve.

The called them there with heads bowed in pain,
To tell them the plan and what mankind would gain.
Moon-Maiden spoke then clear and bright,
"I cannot teach the hunt, please take my light."

"Without the Sun's two eyes the hunt could not be,
Yet with one eye, the young maidens I'd still see.
The Sun must be strong, and provide food for all.
Please take my eye, my loss will be small."

The Trues and the Sun knew she spoke true and kind
And with one eye still, she would not be blind.
Such courage, strength and kindness had she
To give up an eye for all the world that we see.

Already beautiful and young was the Moon,
That any man alive to her would swoon.
But the Trues would pay her for courage shown,
Then endless youth and beauty was hers to own.

I can see this as a childrens book with beautiful illustrations for some reason. It's really nice.

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
