Remember when …

© By Kathy Armijo

Remember when …

Picking the petals off a daisy

Said you were in love and got all mushy

Such a delightful childlike innocence

You knew this test was absolutely true

And that you would never be blue

Remember when …

You twirled the apple stem and recited the alphabet

Hoping that it broke off on the letter for ‘his’ name so you wouldn’t fret

Working the stem just so

Saying the alphabet slowly or quickly

Didn’t matter that you felt cheesy

Remember when …

The neighborhood kids played together

Never matter the weather or if it got darker

Your street was a safe place to play

Mom and Dad didn’t worry about your safety

Cause they knew everybody

Remember when …

Going to the movies was a treat

Your meager allowance covered this.  Sweet

There were cartoons, headlines and then the movie

The beauty of this was the friends you could treat

Movies, popcorn, candy – for all to eat

Remember when …

Gracious!  I am beginning to sound like my Mom

Talking ‘bout them good ole days with such aplomb

You sound like my mother, too. In fact you sound like me. We don't have to return to the past to get a good, warm feeling from visiting it.

Yes indeed, Kathy . . . I don't care what anyone says, no one can look back on today as a "Remember When"

"Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind. Memories, sweetened through the ages just like wine". Memories, some are so fine, some are not. The dregs of our memories tend to settle to the bottom of our memory kegs where we recall them very infrequently. I see you have lost none of your great poetic touch. There is an air of innocents in your poem that is refreshing. Thanks. Jon Michael Willey

Ah, yes, I well remember all the things you mention. Those truly were the good old days and sadly we didn't realize it as strongly while we lived them as we do now. Good write.

Well looking back although we had plenty of hardships I think I would give anything if my children and grandchildren could experience even half the things we done. I mean if you tell a teenager who says he/she is bored in the winter to go tobogganing they look at you as if to ask if you are nuts. LOL

Things didn't have a price tag on them so much back then or perhaps the tag was high and our parents didn't live outside their means. Anyway great write that conjured up lots of memories Kathy...well done.

Excellent write Kathy. Yes, I remember those days well. I don't care what anyone says; those were the good old days. Simpler, safer and happier. Well done. God bless you Kathy and thanks for this. Pleasant memories.

Remember when...I love thinking about the days growing up with eight siblings. There was always an adventure and creative ways for rainy days. It has to return one day. It can't go on in the path everything is now. It isn't best for our children. Thank you for the nostalgia. WE need it all back in front of ua today.
Blessings and love,
Susan

Dear Kathy, thank you forthe piece of Nostalagia as a child Nonna used to love to tell me of when she could go to the movies, (when they were silent) and get a treat of ice cream all for a dime
God Bless

Dear Kathy, this reminds me, we were a dozen of cousins and when the money was tight, and we could hardly pay the tickets for the movies, all the cousins didn't enter before all the cousins could pay their tickets. Everyone would chip in and give his last franc (French money). Sometimes, when we finally succeeded to gather the sum needed, the movie had already stared. No one complained. We were all happy. Laughter, and a bit of tears, for the good ole days - I remember when the neighborhood kids would get together for a game of baseball; everyone knew each other; we'd check on our neighbors; they were not strangers, but friends ... sigh. Not any more ... a beautifully poignant rememberance - very well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
