Lay me down

Lay me down beside my husband

Plant a pear tree above each grave

Let their roots reach out and cling to each other

Like we did alive, for strength and love

When in bloom, singing bees will visit

We shall bear fruits in death as we did in life

We’ll live anew, till every leaf falls down

And then, return to the very start

Back to dust, back to the beginning

To live once again for evermore

That is togetherness in action facing the age of times...
"Lay me down" sings to the union of spirit and the spirit of unity with the voice that never grows old.

In admiration,

Very original love poem, I love the "cycle of nature" projecting your physical lives together into the next spiritual birth. LIke the sweetness of fallen apples, decaying into new life beneath the eternal apple tree of life. You might like my poem "Intitials Carved in Love" written for my dearly departed parents.

Bernice,

What a beautiful thought to be able to connect so perfectly with each other, even in death. Roots that are eternal will surely run deep. Thank You also for commenting on my poem. Blessings to You Always, Paul.

Beautiful Bernice...I am reminded of the movie The Notebook...you need a box of tissues to watch it. Yet I found my tears not of sadness but of joy.

Your choice of the metaphor 'pear tree' - having its sweet gritty textured juicy fruit - is satisfying in light of the strong evidence of your unwavering faith in Jesus Christ woven deliciously throughout your thoughts.

'For me to live is Christ, but to die is gain' is, to me, the marvelous light that permeates this write. Well done!
Blessings ...
