In Remembrance of My Dad who passed away two months ago...sometimes the memories come floading in....

Poem Artwork

Oh, Orange tree
how bitter-sweet your memories are to me
do you remember this desert child
have you forgotten the little girl
who rode her first bike under the shade of your bitter leaves
'twas on a pompous summer eve
when we became playmates
I held on tightly to his hand and we circled you
Over and over and over and over
with jingling giggles and pop-up smiles
and some bruises, nothing a hero's kiss could not heal
But today I stand beneath your sun-melted ears
with very few words and an aching heart
Would you hold my hand in yours tonight
as I dream of days when we rode the stars
all three in one...

(There used to be a very beautiful orange tree in our yard, that's where my father taught me to ride my first bike, I was about six years old.)

Somehow I missed this one. It is powerful and poignant. I love the scent that comes through these lines-- a bitter, tingley, citric smell that accompanies your poem. It's lovely-- a fine tribute to your father. --CHarlie

We heard for every thousand of Mother's stories just one about Father's ones, you give his memory much more that a tender remembrance but a breath of life to continue alive inside you.

Memories once set aside do have a way of re-suracing when we are in need of the warmth of one passed on. The pain, ache in your heart is still fresh and it takes time for the healing. Thanks for sharing...

Be always safe,

Happy memories of someone we love
and still hold close to our hearts
I loved this wrire Bernise
though it has soft gentle sad overtones
Of someone you miss so dearly
Love & peace be with you
and may your Dad be resting in peace

such a fragrant and tender offering, Bernice. So tactile and very tangible, kindling memories that are dear to each one of us as perhaps a doting parents first "letting go", and a child's first taste of racing independence. Added to this is the piquancy of tribute to your dearly departed Daddy and the result is wholly beautiful. Lovely work, bless you, xx

Bernice,

Bittersweet memories and much love in these lines of grief: I know how badly you miss your Daddy. I miss mine, too. :( Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

But I bet you still remember how to ride. :)

Your talent shines brightly with this one dear Bernice. I read it and the tears flowed like a river. The loss of a parent is such a difficult thing to bear. You never get over it you just learn to get through it.
Hugs,
Marcia

Dear Bernice, this brought a big old lump to my throat for I could feel the closeness you and your father shared mainly because I share it with my own daughter and now granddaughter and I know someday my time will come as your Dads did and like you they will miss me so much. I am sure though there the bond between a father and a daughter is eternal and you will meet again.

This is beautiful... I understand how it is...somedays you just want to step back in time and FEEL the reassurance that a parents touch can bring...I know I feel that way about my mom sometimes and it has been two years since her passing...
