are we there yet?  that often repeated phrase
uttered by children and myself
after feeling like we’d traveled nearly forever
so many destinations came and went
lifetimes of  missions and journeys
 
are we there yet?  god knows, somewhere
inside us knows, the soul knows
and yet we ask again because
we are shifting, shaping, becoming
in this soul limbo of  critical mass
 
knowing…yes knowing something
within has changed…abruptly halted
momentum.. gestating… slumbering
something without has changed
as earth winters herself
 
are we there yet?  the devotee asks of
the guru, only to hear the question
returned to the self..for in the very
asking of the question we deny
its contemplation
 
are we there yet?  asked slower
with intention to the self to
meditate upon its value in
expectation of excited rush
for we so love propulsion
 
knowing, when you know
within is that inner glow
that revelation, excitation
giggly, giddy bright
outreach of brilliance
 
are we there yet?  echoes
unspoken like winter’s barren
branches content in their
stark, naked, hibernation
lacking evidence of life
 
sighing…then grinning
because when we feel like this
the only place we want to be
is curled up warm and loved
in-between our sheets
