amazing places exist on the earth
hidden in corners seldom known
we fear of man destroying the planet
yet the power of nature is shown

I view a valley once as lush
flowing rivers with willow banks
home to existence filled with life
and now is a desolate dessert

the ice age left a rugged range
and water of abundance
man and animal shared the land
and everything seemed to balance

400 millennia years ago
nature unleashed a volcano
each eruption washed lava flow
over this fertile land
until one day the river was buried
and all had to flee the land

what remains are volcanoes extinct
barren views and sand
it calls to me
perhaps we lived there
and are apart of the land

dark and eerie
the rocks lay dormant
holding within them time
waiting I wonder to wake again
when nature decides its time

I know your face
in the wildflowers there
and watch you play as the rocks
I'm filled serene as you grace the river
and you hunted for your tribe
legs equine and sure of bow
a warrior then and now
