he tip toes around
and sniffs the suitcase
wondering if it's staying awhile

for a time big boy
I reassure him
and dump the contents on the floor

I never know
and yesterdays are remembered tomorrow

where time is a concept
only measured by watches

and moments are
prisms glistening rainbows

and the challenge of existing
fades as he yowls
for he just wants to be held

the concept of home
as I gaze upon familiar surroundings
and think of the dead
"what a long strange trip it's been"

and he sniffs again
at the dust on my shoes

flicking his tail
cause he likes routine

and he paces the floor
cause he worries too much

it's alright baby
my arms reach for him
you can snuggle now
