in response to "That's What You get for loving me"

A river of tears cries on the page
Cracks in my heart again
Will my lesson never be learned
Mindless thoughts wonder when.
Carelessly, I wonder back where it
all began, a handsome gentle man
that had so much to give
But no gentleness was in his soul, only
a devil’s wrath. He took the love that
I had, but never once gave  back.
Yesterday, his words poured forth
from his silver tongue, and his
words music to my ears, how was
I to know the evil he had done.
I drowned in a pool of his deep blue eyes,
as he gently kissed my lips,
But the lies and deceit within his heart, no,
this I’ll never forgive.

I asked him to envelope me, and hold me
all night long. But his tongue of gold knifed
me in the back, how could I have been so wrong.
He slapped me across the face with his acid tongue,
The devil’s laugh was a cruel one. The cutting words
spewed from his mouth.  My eyes flooded with
salty tears, did he care what he’d done?
“Do you really believe the things I say?
What a child you are! For wanderlust is my song,
I take what I want, forget the
past and then move on.”
So I sit here with a shattered heart, tears cry
from my pen. Red with anger shines my face,
and all of my rage sets in. and if I see him ever again,
his days of “wanderlust” will swiftly come to an end.

well-crafted lines that hold their rhyme-structures well, Mary. And I like your recurring images of the tongue and eyes: the two main transmitters/receivers that bind and confuse muchly in personal relationships. Both can sadly deceive us... and be deceived. Good work though sad in substance. TY Kate xx

Moving poetry and it made me think about some past relationships. When the heart is broken-it takes gentleness and time to heal.

Sadness drops making words like tears, a poem to reflect as one remember a moment that should have been forgotten.
Like the quill of the poet had a pain of its own.

Everything has a double edge to it. And in the end can cut.
And like your last stanza expresses so well,
"his days of “wanderlust” will swiftly come to an end.
wonderlust doesn't last forever.

Great poem. The depth of pain is well expressed.

emotionally intense -- the old adage that states,"be long in choosing your friends and you will be long in holding them", is quite true -- too many people are enamored with satin tongues and an evil glint in a person's eyes -- good lesson and reminder Mary - joy is the union of peace and love -- JMW
