The Ocean Roars

Don't let anything rule your life.

Walking upon the ocean shore, water kisses my

Feet and I listen to the great sea roar.  I turn

To look at my footprints; when in an instance,

The majestic ocean rolls to the shore and my

Insignificant footprints are no more.

Life can be like the mighty sea, we play these

Games, getting our feet wet, learning how to be.

But once again, as we climb the invisible rope,

The ocean roars again, knocks us down, and we

Fear there is no hope.

But it doesn’t have to be like this, we can fight

The roaring waves.  For when they crash over us,

We must be brave and laugh in their face.

To get along in life you must show no fear,

face that awesome tide, and put it in its place.

I especially like this one. I know the feeling of waves of grief washing over you, nearly taking your breath away. And you're so right when you say, 'For when they crash over us, we must be brave'
Well done,
Donna

I like anything to do with the oceans and any use of metaphor related to them in writing; I LIKE this poem. Strong stuff!

I love this poem. I was raised near the Ocean and wrote, "The Voyage of Billy Buckins" because of my love of the sea. Thank you for this.

Mary -- you have outdone yourself! It reminds me of my old times playing in the ocean -- seeing a giant wave and realizing the only way to survive is by going right through it -- sunshine is on the other side! I could have chosen to ride the wave but since it was so big I knew I would get fiercely tumbled. Life is the same -- we have to go forward bravely knowing we will survive on the other side of life's waves. Susan

Mary Lacey, you have put determination in the proper context so that all may understand the need to face the impossible with grit and bravado -- peace and love my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Very solid advice for I have often struggled in those surging seas and I too learned with time and experienced to either go with the flow, body surf over them or swim under them...

Right, Mary / You can't go swimming without getting your face wet . . . Go with the flow / Sometimes swim against the current.
