He clings like a leaf

to a branch in the middle of winter.

Feels like a stranger, lost among strangers.

Views life as if trapped at the bottom of a murky pond –

all the while wondering why he cannot be appreciated for

what he is – rather than criticized for all that he isn’t.

Stimulates me to ask the question for myself, do I even want to belong? Much of the time, I think not, as to belong often means that I must play some sort of social game where the best players are all oven-mitted and blind.

Great thinking here, Dawn. Yes, we perhaps pay little attention to the withered leaf, thinking it but a poor shadow of what we consider it is intended to be. Likewise the muddied riverbed. A lesson here perhaps about the importance of positive self-image and not permitting our self-worth to be shaped by the eyes of those whose perceptions are inadequate or ignorant. xx

Amazing! You capture the feeling and the flow, and tell a story with just a handful of lines. Your words are used well, and your idea forms in perfection. You have moved me.

You are very talented. Thank you for sharing this gem.

Nice work Dawn....life is like that tree you speak of, we cling to each and every branch seeking to be a part of the force that gives to those other leaves clinging and hoping to be...and yet the realization...at times...is that eventually we will fall like the winter will come, and then we are wisped away by the wind...or time...wondering of those moments when we feel like stangers to the tree...of life...

nice...

A beautiful and thoughtful write. John Donne said, "No man is a island", and so he isn't in the broad specturm of work, marrage, and family; however, he is an island unto his own weaknesses and feelings of vulnerability.

Many of us are misrepresented by what others see in us;
and many of us have misrepresented ourselves to others.

The truth of the matter:

Always be yourself,
and write ONLY what you know.

When one doesn't know enough of the topic
he writes about and he writes
IDIOT becomes him through misrepresentation
by himself to others!!!

What an interesting thought-provoking poem!!!
