Ironic Beauty

The graceful arches
And proud towers
Guard the intricate tiles
Of the ancient buildings

In this arid place
The blue tiles
Recall the fountains of Paradise

And yet...
These monuments were built
To honor an ideology
Whose only form of decoration
Is now blood and shattered bodies.

How ironic
That this beauty can exist
In a place of such ugliness.

I'll never be
My only out,
Is to keep being me.

Well said. This tells a lot of stories. A good looking facade often hides a lot of ugly secrets.
