reaching into the depths
of an empty goodbye
you slip away unnoticed
a refugee from the tribulations
of my wakening storm
whose sharp edged hollow winds
sever the tendrils
of our diminishing love affair
for me there is no outlet
from the rummage bin of the heart
but you can cleanse the house
and exchange commitment for abandon
too soon to leave me
in the wake of tears and anguish
immersed in the soft echoes of truths forgotten
and the rumblings of my solitary soul
the future is misplaced
for those who writhe
around the gathering post of despair
because the days conquer
the forward movement of time
digesting yesterday’s disappointment
into a singular memory
of hunger and loss
yet in the dusk of dreams
I find my solace lodged
between the quiet of midnight
and the glimmering dawn
where there is nothing to fear
beyond the vagrant pledge
of a hopeful heart
and the vacant certainty
of the next swift goodbye
