...about...what else but summer's heat...in Texas

Poem Artwork

Summertime - The Living Ain’t Easy

Fish ain’t jumping, and I’m usin’ all my “easy”;
fact is, the heat is making me queasy.
Cotton ain’t growing cause we need some rain;
dirt so dry we can’t even plant grain.

Fifty miles out to the North and the East,
rains come down like a roaring beast.
But where I am it sure is dry…
causing a complete halt to my “spry”.

Some mornings aren’t safe to get about,
when “orange-level” ozone is what they shout.
I gasp for breath in the humidity,
yet no rains come to cool down my city.

Temps are ~HOT~ heat index one-twelve
I close my blinds, into cool room I delve;
I’ve concluded I’ll hibernate this summertime;
wait impatiently for winter’s clime!

You effectively share the exprience, Jackie. Here, this has been one of the coolest summers in memory. In fact, I missed almost two weeks of cycling in August because of rain and cold. Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Excellent poem! I feel for you, hope you've gotten some much needed relief. Problem is, when the ground gets as parched as what you've described, a deluge of rain usually leads to flooding, so I'm hoping it was a gentle long drawn out rain and not a flood. ~ Sara

Oh how I can feel the agony you suffer. Even indoors with air conditioning roaring, just impossible to get comfortable as I watch everything wilt and melt away. Come on winter. Good to read your work again, I have missed you....

i KNOW IT'S BEEN SO HOT DOWN IN TEXAS. EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE HIGH TEMP. I HAVE TO MOVE OUT OF TRAILER BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORT HIGH COST OF PROPANE THIS WINTER TO HEAT IT. IF I COULD BOTTLE SOME OF SUMMER'S HEAT I'D BE FINE. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.
DRINK LOTS OF ICED TEA AND STAY COOL. GREAT POEM THOUGH TELLING US ALL ABOUT IT. I DON'T THINK WE REALIZE HERE IN PA HOW HOT IT REALLY IS SOME PLACES.

LOL A StormSpinner kind of write - have penned my frustrations with the heat in "HAAWWWTTTT!" Told a friend we don't live in Texas, we live in Hell: 'cause it's hotten than. LOL Stay cool, my friend. Well done.
