Monster under the bed

When I was young I heard it said
that a monster lived under the bed
Its eyes were red, its teeth were sharp
and it would come to eat my heart

In the night it would come creeping
out from the bed to watch me sleeping
and would watch with eyes of glowing red
and sit on the dresser beside the bed

I saw it at times peeking through the closet door
and hear it skuttle across the floor
But in the morning it would go away
hiding from the light of day

But when I got older I could stand it no more
when I heard it run across the floor
I shouted at it "What are you trying to do
All this time sneaking about the room ?"

It stopped in its tracks out of surprise
and looked at me with its fearsome eyes
"You think I am a just a beast that lives under the bed,
that comes out to eat you when I am not "it said

"Monsters live under the beds and watch children sleep
to keep them safe, and from harm to keep.
They dissappear from the light of day
because Moms and Dads keep the harm away"

So if you see the monster under the bed
watching you with eyes of red
Know that they are there as a lucky charm
to keep children safe and do them no harm

I'm glad we finally know the truth about monsters under the bed. And we should not judge others by their appearances.
