The Burden

I live under a cloud
that has a heavy heart
but won't rain for fear
of drowning me

Always on the verge
of a downpour this
cloud hovers over.

I feel a brief shower
sometimes, but the sun
always peeks through
changing the forecast

It wants my days sunny,
this I know; and I sense
its burden, and I know
it’s there, but I haven’t
the guts to ease its pain
and say "It’s all right, I
won’t drown" because
no matter how strong a
swimmer I am, deep in
my heart I know I will
drown and I won’t be strong
enough to save myself
myself

What a heavy burden for
me to put on the cloud -
besides, the one it’s
already carrying.

I hope it won’t become a
hurricane

Maybe the cloud cant
Pour on me because there
is no inclination

I tell myself that the cloud
is having second thoughts

I don’t want to be dry,
I want to be wet and
ease its heaviness and
let me carry some of the
weight.
