Metamorphosis

In the deep of the night,
when most people are asleep.
My darkest fears would come to light
and the shadows would begin to creep.

From under the covers of my bed,
I would see my room shift and change.
What had been familiar with no need of dread,
became dark, scary, mysterious and strange.

I saw a closet change into a beast.
I saw a chair become a crouching man.
I saw no help from the sun in the east,
so I jumped out of bed and I just ran.

I felt too silly to wake my mom and dad.
I was too scared to go back into my room.
So I would sit and talk to myself, feeling sad,
for I was too sleepy to feel such gloom.

When the sky began to lighten up to the east,
I headed back into my room, my now safe friend.
Once more, my room was without any ole beast
and I was deep asleep in no time again.
