What is it with airport lobbies that makes them the poster child
For crazy or exotic or just plain weird decorations that some call art?
I was just in one this morning waiting patiently with my wife
And I couldn't help eyeing the strange shaped, colorfully wild
Stuff on the opposite wall above the airline counters and flight charts.
Maybe they put that stuff up for people like me who don't have a life--
Those who try to find poetry in everything that's around them
And look at the cylinders and prisms and bean-pod shaped lanterns
And wonder why in the world these shapes and these colors are there.
Maybe they figure that the void should be filled in with a whim,
As if they let their fancy run wild without a clear pattern.
Regardless, I find myself wondering why I should even care.
