Incorporeal Lacerations

Some wounds fester, never healed
When carved much deeper than the skin…
The faintest whisper of the past
Wakes up the demon deep within.

Slowly rotting underneath
The inner workings of the mind…
These self-depreciating thoughts
Will twist these ropes, the soul to bind.

Never feeling quite secure,
The nightmares dance in light of day…
Hollow, empty feelings surge
While pushing heaven’s light away.

When nails of sorrow driven deep
Have ruptured every future dream…
Reality becomes surreal,
While nothing is as it would seem.

Falling into this abyss
Of scathing tears like acid rain…
Can slowly blind the eyes of truth
While sanity flows down the drain.

It sinks its teeth into the bone
With talons raised in full aggression…
While to fight you must know who,
This monster’s name is called Depression.

I knew where it was going, yet was hit by the way you made it sound. This is quite a work about something everyone deals with or lies about dealing with.

Having dealt with depression myself, I know it well. You have captured what I could not quite put into words. Loved your images. Especially the last two stanzas. They really hit home for me.

Melissa, once again you have taken a write into the highest levels and found a way to describe with words what haunts many of us now or in our past. If we know their face, we can control them and defeat them. I have one suggestion, ..lets have your demons and my demons get together for a glass of kool-aid so they won't be so ominous in our dreams. :)

I know exactly what you're saying coz I've been through it. The power and truth in each and every word pierces you. Gurl, this is yet another one of your writes that I simple love because it's like a slice of my life. Excellent!
