Thicker Than Blood

Swift with change the reasons turn,
beneath the skin the blood runs cold…
When peaceful days pass all too soon
with faded dreams so hard to hold.

A crippled soul from lack of sunshine,
brittle bones find comfort lost…
Amidst the tide of murdered memories
innocence has paid the cost.

In a breath the ocean swallows
feelings swirling deep within…
She cast her out like dirty water
over-board, to sink or swim.

God have mercy on the daughter
drowning in her mother’s flood…
Though somewhere there’s a soul whose eyes
pour tears of love as thick as blood.

She swam fathoms finally finding
solid ground on which to grow…
Compassion bloomed to feed her spirit
as her family ties let go.

She emerges from the damage
beautiful, to shine once more…
Secure within her new beginning,
learning what a family’s for.

For someone special...
