I’ve reached beneath the covers
of the darkness,
only to find
the cold feet of indifference…
ice cube feelings hiding from my view.

I’ve felt the chill of daydreams
lulling me to sleep a masquerade,
that I would never see the truth.
Yet I refused to blink an eye…
to miss one moment of this clarity.

For while you slept
I lived in nightmares still awake.

I prayed for justice for my pain,
for every memory I can’t shake.
I bore the heavy weight of chains
around my heart.

I took the blame for you disease,
for your lack of humanity
until my blood boiled within me.

When I could sacrifice no more…
for there were no dreams left, no hopes,
not even fear…
When you had raped my very essence
leaving me alone inside to die,
throwing me away like wilted roses…
I found my righteous anger.

Now I can sleep without the torture,
without the fear of what you’re doing.
While it is you
that must run from me…
in nightmares.

I'm sorry to say this is just too familiar!
Scary how close to how I've felt at one point in my battle-weary betrayed life.
WoW - its like you are inside my head on this one ...
10+++

Melissa, this plunges deep into the pit of reality. Dreams are not always fantasies. They predict what is happening in life. Your poetry gets better and better as you spread you wings and fly to better things with more emotional appeal. Love your work and always have. Your freind Bill
