Flight Of Soul

Heart swallowed emptiness
dead weight upon the soul…
The darkness falls in happenstance
its depth I can’t control.

Life’s flowers sometimes fade and fall
caught in the winds of force…
Black petals raining from the sky
no fragrance, but remorse.

Bare stems left to deny the heart
or prick the mind with dread…
Seem lifeless bled of colored hues,
a bouquet for the dead.

‘Neath darkened skies appear the fowl
black winged and omen sent…
With poison in their sharpened beaks
pon death they are intent.

Yet spit I in the face of these
who’d break my spirit twain…
For I despise the wicked hordes
who speak of life in vain.

Tis I who ride upon their backs
to gather starlit tears…
I resurrect the hope that’s born
from facing down my fears.

Then bloom again the naked buds
unfolding ‘neath the sun…
I’ll breathe their life and vow to fight
’till this my journey’s done.

Melissa,
"Heart swallowed emptiness".....Hmm, sister, some high praise I see here....I wonder, could these type words and lines, have anything to do with it?
Sincerely,
Rodney Evan Bohen

Great work, Melissa. It is a change for you using the Old English wording in your work but it works well in this piece.
