Sackcloth

Pass me by shroud of darkness
my head’s full of sorrow
I’ll rest in the shadows
‘till sunrise tomorrow.

You’ve woven your garment
across my pale skin
in the fabric of moments
that seems of no end.

Where the silence is echoed
as loud as the thunder
I long for the sleep
where sweet dreams pull me under.

To fade from this nightmare
of sleepwalking only
alone ‘neath the depths
of the futile and lonely.

Grant me one more day
to remember my heart
‘fore your hands come to steal it
then tear it apart.

Oh, black knight full of misery,
of sorrow, and shame
will I ever stop hearing you
calling my name?

If I must bear your torture
then bear it I will
though you may own the moment
my hope you can’t kill…

That I’ll find one reminder
to bring back the light
to awaken my soul
finding my inner sight.
