How…
How can I?

How can I erase you from my mind?
            -Your laugh
            -Your smile
            -Your kindness

I didn’t want to!
But, you came
-came, and poured black ink on my blotter-

You made my glowing image of you --
Disfigured.

And now…
I can’t remember you, with all the good things- -
my memory’s obscured by dark pain.

-You tried to blot me out!

I tried to erase you-
but in erasing you
it removed a part of me as well.

I don’t know how to be whole...

Because,
You left erasure marks in me
            -In my mind
            -my heart
            -my soul

How…
How can I?

How can I erase the ink
that stained my image of you
            -Without erasing you?
            -Without erasing me….

Amazing thoughts! There's no erasing the past or someone without erasing oneself. Beautifully penned! My favorite line "...but in erasing you
it removed a part of me as well."

There is no substance that erases ink without soiling, harming, spoiling the paper it is splattered on. One thing I've learned however (and from the most amazing woman EVER!) is that when there's a flaw, you emphasize it. And that brings out its beauty. So now, while the ink's still wet, fold the page in half, and form a butterfly. Make the painful words a picture that can fly away... I found your poem to have powerful sentiments, but it's like reading Morse Code... All- those ... dots and --hyphen/dashes... -You've got to give us the key, or we're not going to read it correctly... --Charlie

Powerful! During my divorce [husband #1], there were indeed aspects of that marriage that I wanted to rid my heart. Interestingly, I realized that I was loosing a piece of me. I changed my mind-set, and decided that they were growing pains, then I didn't loose me in the process. Instead, I gained greater strength.

God bless you. Kathy
