Mirrors Never Lie

Mirrors Never Lie…

She stood in front of the mirror,
straining to see the beauty
others said they saw…

She’d heard it said
that mirrors never lie

 Alas, she only saw herself
with all her flaws…
the graying hair,
the crooked smile,
the tear within her eye

She quickly turned away—
for she knew it hadn’t lied
and she didn’t want each day
to be ruined by her flaws.

She poured her daily life
into serving other people--
trying to forget her image
and the faults she knew were there.

Those she served
spoke of her beauty
and her smile, and her grace,
but most of all
they spoke of
the sparkle in her eye.

For what she didn’t realize
was the tear within her eye
created pools of mirrors
where they saw her soul’s reflection
and the beauty
and the love that lay within

And mirrors never lie…

Too often we can only see our own flaws and not beyond to the good that others witness. Meaningful piece. Hugs, Elizabeth

A beuatiful poem, and a good take on self-asteem.

As inanimate as a mirrors are, they are very personal.

If we were to look at you in a mirror, would we both see the same you ?

Enjoyed your Mirrors Never Lie and the truth you expressed. I liked how you used the "Mirrors never lie" phrase to reveal our imperfections yet also reveal that the mirrors made by tears reveal more than our surface. - David

Hello Cryssa,

Yes mirrors never lie - and the eyes are the mirrors of the soul.
Look into the eyes and behind the smile is the deep sadness of the heart hidden there.

Oh mom,
I love this. You made me cry! You are beautiful! Every so called "flaw" is a part of the whole you, they aren't flaws. Your eyes, and smile, and especially laugh(heeheehee)are maybe the things people have complimented you on, but your entire being is beautiful and is a reflection of your soul because of the light and love that shines from within you, and radiates through your loving eyes and around you like a burning fire. Everything about you makes you Mom, and I love you for every trait, even the graying hair (I am sure I had to do with a couple of those, sorry, heeheehee).
I love you Mom!! I miss you!!

Darn it... the mirror does not lie! However...you have captured a beautiful way of describing what is seen in that mirror...and it's not just thru outer beauty...it's what is inside that has to be beautiful for the outside to appear move lovely indeed! Wonderful writing. lindalaw

If tears had eyes... I think they'd only see your cheek, and your eye, perhaps splashing, splintered onto hands, where they dissipate, and re-enter the body. The things reflected there-in must be exhaultingly beautiful.

Happy Birthday, Sis. You are always beautiful to me. :o) --Charlie

A very poetic truth that you captured with a feminine touch. There is more to beauty than what you can see in a man-made mirror.
