Plowing Furrows; Hoeing Rows

This poem summarizes what I have felt over the past few months as we tried to complete our home, move, and get settled. Everything else went by the wayside as we tried to focus on our goal and complete our task. And now...finally...I can see the rewards are more than I had imagined.

Plowing Furrows; Hoeing Rows

The task was given

to complete:

-plow the furrows

-hoe the rows

My steps were eager--

my heart light,

to show my strength

was my delight.

My focus was

upon my goal--

It filled my mind.

It filled my soul;

but with the dawn

of each new day

briars and thorns

grew in my way.

The task which seemed

so easy once

became a bleak

and daunting one.

At times the goal

was out of sight.

It seemed to me

I plowed at night.

My mind said

I should endure,

but the way

seemed so unsure.

When I felt

my strength was gone

my body screamed,

“I can’t go on!”

As I fell--

on bended knee,

I fervently

began to plea.

I cried aloud,

“This is too much!”

‘Twas then I felt

the Master’s touch.

He took the plow

and dug my furrow.

He took the hoe

and hoed my row.

Gently then, He

turned me ‘round--

to show me what

was in the ground,

for in the rows

that I had hoed,

had sprouted faith,

and love and hope.

And streaming through

those furrowed rows,

I could clearly see

where Heaven’s blessings flow.

Oh you poor thing, so much to endure and yet through God strength was felt and absorbed for you to continue on. An inspiration to all who may be about to give up....

Be always safe,

Cryssa, this is magnificent! You must publish it! It is so uplifting and inspiring! Reminds me of when I bought my first home, and the struggle to renew it etc. Could never have done it without the Master Builder!;-)

I like the idea that everything, experiences, daily life, moods and feelings can be turned into poetry because that's just in the way you look at life and life always has that poetic quality.
So this is what you are doing here, with your energy and faith that - I believe - are part of who you are and how you write.

A beautiful analogy, Cryssa. This has a lovely lilt and effortless flow. Now to enjoy the fruits of your harvest, not least of which is a teachable spirit which gives us all seeds to sow. Welcome to your new vineyard! :)) xx

Dear Cryssa, You know how happy I am for you. We missed you and missed your enthusiasm. You expressed the right thing to do when we have a task to achieve. We just have to start and not give up. The strength will come with our courage, tenacity and resolve in order to reap the fruit of our labors. Welcome Back. Love Emile

Now, we have the furrows all we need now is to put the seeds, God and the rain will do the rest, we only need to say thanks.

...and all that from a real, for true farm girl--and it rhymes too! A lot of truth in your lines (rows?) No white flags up... blessings must have reached the end of every one of those furrows. --Charlie

Wow, this is true belief in our creator and what he can do. His love can get us through anything, conquer anything, overcome anything and this poem shows it and says so. What a WRITE! Faith of a true child of God. Love, Bonnie
