A Lighter Shade of Gray

Have you ever noticed

there’s no sunrise when it snows?

The vivid colors don’t imbue,

(It seems they can’t get through.)

and so the sky but softly turns

a lighter shade of gray.

When there’s winter in my soul

the world seems cold and dark.

No bright colors penetrate

to lighten up my heart.

No sunrise warms my icy mood

to turn my days from nights,

and daylight only seems to bring

a lighter shade of gray.

But deep inside my heart reminds

that eyes can’t see all things;

and just because I can’t perceive

the colors of the dawn

doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

It only means that I have let

the gray obscure my view.

And so, too, in my winter’s soul,

I must remember this…

when sunlight hits

those cold gray clouds

they’ll be illuminated,

revealing to my tender heart

a thousand different colors.

And so ... it is a matter of us letting the sunlight in to banish the gray ... yet so often, we can not see the possibilities beyond the clouds. Such a deep write, Cryssa, so heartfelt. Hugs, Elizabeth

Very well done, Cryssa. I've been gone a lot with some things that added a big dose of gray to life. A week ago this poem might not have uplifted me, but today it did, so this must be the day I was meant to see it. Thanks.....Jerry

Absolutely beautiful, Cryssa in form and imagery. You paint a lighter shade of grey on my grateful eyes and let me see the rainbow that is you - well done.

Your feelings here should had been with a background of the tunes from "A lighter shade of pale" because both will complement each other, with that languorous kind of sadness, with a ray of hope at the end.

We tend when trouble besets us, to not look at the bright side but tend to be obscured in our perception of the dire times we are experiencing. Well done Cryssa.

Dear Cryssa, Again you surprise me with your beautiful way of describing your feelings and your soul. But I am certain that by now, as you mentionned a few times, you seem to see at least a trace of light through my writing. If not let me tell you that the light is there waiting for your heart's door to open. Smile to life despite any shade of grey, you will discover what I just said.
Love to you and to your husband. Emile
