Melancholy Dreamer

Joy came

when dreams were new

and reveling in them

brought delight.

Then harsh realities

killed the hope

and fettered up

the goal.

And now that dream

that once brought joy

is wrapped

in melancholy layers

The mind speaks thoughts

of giving up

and letting go

the fantasy,

but in those veins

of traitor’s words

the heart provides no solace.

For letting go the chosen goal

would kill the dreamer’s soul…

And the soul with longing

yearns too strong

for dreams that will not die;

and so the dreamer

keeps alive

that hope that only glimmers

and revels in the melancholy

that comes from dying dreams.

One must hold on to ones dreams, no matter the pain of one that has not been reached, or may never be reached, and that pain is the only hope you have. I am so moved by this piece, Cryssa, my words are not adequate ~ Hugs, Elizabeth

Melancholy is one of my favorite words maybe because that's what the books say my personality type was at that moment. This is truely beautiful because is true for most melancholics.

They say we dream every night . Some are remembered , others remain a part of the subcoscious. The poem is soul touching!.....M

This beautiful poem reminds me of the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Cryssa, I think it's so very important to have dreams...and to fulfill them whenever possible....but there's a difference between what is obtainable and what is not. Beautiful write.

You have entered a solitary forest where dreams are hanging from so many trees, some of them withered, others already on the ground, and your pen blowing a breeze from the eternal lungs of a melancholy dreamer.

Cryssa,I see what you mean about the relationship of your well-done rythmic poem with my article, "Depression Can Help," and the poem with it. If you can turn that melancholy to productive introspection and faith, perhaps we both will have done something well. It's tough, isn't it? Your writing is theraputic both for us and yourself...........Jerry

Dear Cryssa, I would not let melancholy take over. There is a big difference between dream and reality. I would not let the dream guide my mind unless you feel it with all your being. One should have hope, as we should seek out the ways of the High Powers which should guide us. Praying and leaving it to the grace is the best we can do. Love Emile

Cryssa,

This spoke to me:

" ... the mind speaks thoughts
of giving up
and letting go
the fantasy,
but in those veins
of traitor's words
the heart provides no solace.
And letting go the chosen goal
would kill the dreamer's soul... ...."

That's it, right there, the crux of the matter. Thank God we're stronger than the traitor's voice, mmm? Powerfully penned inspiration, well done, one of your (many) bests.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
