Song of My Soul

Reflections? Introspection? Fantasy? Reality? A blend of all those? John Flanagan's "middle tree" was my inspiration for this rendering. My thanks John.

Song of My Soul

a song plays gentle on my mind

its melody curious a solemn blend

bold as “entrance of the gladiator”

dreamy as a Stephen Foster piece

crashing cymbals snare drum rat tat

harpsichord brass and kettle drum

fife Stradivarius guitar and bassoon

and the lyrics my life’s endless riddle

no rhyme nor reason all out of season

a piccolo player’s emotions stirring

within the soul of a concert pianist

without a conductor a band of thieves

lifted abilities and desires with impunity

errant paths yet I never sought immunity

another societal rapscallion loosed

harmlessly stirring imaginations

fears of the anxious I piqued overtly

a song plays gentle on my mind

won’t you join me all you misfits

revelers poets and artists

How playful and teasing to the sensibilities. I love the descent of each word like snowflakes in the grace of winter. Lovely work.

WHAT IS EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL ABOUT A SONG OF THE SOUL IS THAT EVERY ONE'S SONG IS SO DIFFERENT...THEIR ESSENCES, THEIR VEROCITIES, THEIR DEPTHS AND TEXTURES ARE SO VARIED...AND YET...SO SIMILAR, THAT THIS EXQUISITE PATTERN APPEARS...YES, THIS ELOQUENT COVERING, COMPRISED OF SONGS OF THE SOUL COMES FORTH, AND WE CALL IT...? AUTHORS DEN. WELL DONE, JON...ENJOYED. THANKS FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I like the soft feel to this poem, Jon. There's a sense of vulnerability about your words. Great writing. Love and Hugs,

LOVE it!! I am sure John does. [Wonderful, isn't he?]

This is beautiful and clever and musical and you have even managed
to slip in humor. Rapscallion is one of my favorite words. Can't
imagine anyone not smiling.

Did I mention the images s i n g? That the poem tantalizes all the
senses?

Multiply Yes to infinity.

I have a friend who is a flutist, as well as a writer. Can't wait to show this to her. (Her name is Barbara Kenyon. I am telling you
because I have heard & saw an excerpt from the memoir she is writing and recording. Part flute, part prose, part poetry, all woven into a unique and colorful tapestry. Symphony an apter metaphor. I predict it will be a huge hit.)

Encore! ENCORE!!!

A song often invades my mind. However, reading your multi-instrumented experience seems more like a clash of cymbals. A bit unsettling.

So many of us keep searching for the true melody of our souls, often taking many false paths before recognizing the truth of our inner song.
Count me in your band of misfits...I will feel right at home. Splendid writing Jon Michael.

No one can resist this invitation, Jon, no one...'a band of thieves' now that's an interesting pun and twist...those who are different, bold, singular yet have an understanding of shared harmonies and a common desire and purpose.
Thank you for the mention, My Friend, I'm honoured.
